One more case of revenge porn: K'taka woman kills self over circulation of her explicit photos

Written by : TNM Staff

In an apparent case of revenge porn, a 25-year-old woman committed suicide on Wednesday at her residence in Maddur, Mandya district.

The accused, Anil Kumar, was arrested on Thursday morning after Sahana’s* husband found her suicide note alleging that Kumar had circulated her explicit photos among his friends.

The Maddur Inspector told The News Minute that Sahana’s death was discovered by their neighbour last evening when there was no answer to Sahana’s daughter’s knocks on the door.

Four-year-old Riya* had gone out to play. When she returned home, her mother did not open the door. Seeing her sitting outside the house, the neighbour peeked inside the house through a window and saw Sahana’s legs suspended above the ground.

Realising that she might have hung herself, the neighbour took Riya to his house and managed to break down the door.

Sahana’s husband filed a complaint with the Maddur police after finding Sahana’s suicide note on Wednesday night.

“Her husband alleged that Sahana and Anil were friends and had gone out some days ago. Anil had spiked Sahana’s drink and then taken obscene photos of her. Sahana had been in a state of panic when she found out Anil had circulated the photos among his friends,” the investigating officer said.

The police said that they are investigating Anil’s motive and are trying to establish how many people the photos were sent to.

Less than a month ago, Bengaluru Cyber Crime CID police arrested a man for befriending a woman on a matrimonial website and posting her photos on an escort website.

Gangappa Nanjegowda, a 44-year-old married man and technical manager at BTM Layout would pretend to be single online and allegedly lure divorcees, widows and women over 35 years of age, by proposing to marry them.
