Bengaluru city’s Cyber Crime CID sleuth cracked down a case of online revenge and arrested a 44-year-old man on Thursday, for allegedly posting a photo of a woman on a classified portal and advertising her as an escort.

According to a report by the Times of India, the probe revealed that the accused had cheated many women in Bengaluru through wedding portals by approaching them as a prospective groom.

The suspect, Gangappa Nanjegowda, a technical manager at a garment designing firm in BTM Layout, had registered in many marriage portals.

He would allegedly lure divorcees, widows and women above the age of 35 years by seeking to marry them. Gangappa, who is a native of Mandy is married and has a child, posed as a single man.

Gangappa had contacted a 37-year-old doctor on December 31, 2016 through his profile on shaadi.com. She had declined his proposal just a few days later.

An angry Gangappa took her picture from the marriage portal and posted it on a classified website and advertised her as an escort.

The doctor received over 500 calls on her phone, after which she lodged a complaint with the police.

A 22-year-old college student from Udupi in Karnataka, also went to the police with the complaint that her ex-boyfriend had put up her photographs and videos on the Internet after she decided to end the relationship. The boy was arrested and remanded to judicial custody in 2014.

The accused, Gogia, who is from Uttar Pradesh, had met these women on matrimonial sites. After getting into brief relationships with these women, he would seek sexual favours from them. He was arrested in August 2015 after a rape case against him in Delhi was transferred to Bengaluru.
