UoH asks protesting SC/ST teachers to submit fresh resignation

Written by : TNM Staff

The University of Hyderabad on Sunday asked around 20 professors from the SC/ST Teachers Forum to submit fresh resignations, along with reasons for stepping down from the post, for consideration.

“If any member of SC/ST Teachers Forum is unwilling to consider VC’s request for continuance in an administrative post, the convener is requested to advise individuals to tender resignation, giving reason(s), which will be considered by the university accordingly,” a press note from UoH authorities said.

The members of the Forum, who hold various administrative posts, had staged a protest and submitted their resignation in January, shortly after the suicide of Dalit research scholar Rohith Vemula at the university.

However, they later withdrew their resignations in February after vice-chancellor M Periasamy was put in charge.

Last week, with the return of Appa Rao Podile as VC, the forum has decided to step up its demands again.

In a letter addressed to the VC, it earlier said "We now reiterate our stand that we are resigning from our position since you have returned as VC before the judicial probe is completed as well as in the light of highly disturbing events that have taken place on the campus since your return"
