Telangana teen hangs herself after being stalked, two arrested

Written by : TNM Staff

Two youngsters were arrested by the Telangana police on Wednesday after a 17-year-old intermediate student reportedly hanged herself to death, due to harassment by the accused.

The Deccan Chronicle reported that Shivarathri Shivani was studying at the Kamalapur government junior college and had previously complained about one Srikanth and his friend, who kept stalking her.

"My sister told us that the boy and his friends used to misbehave with her. We warned him that we will complain to the police. But he continued harassing her and drove her to death," Shivani’s brother Kumaraswamy told DC.

On Monday, Srikanth reportedly threatened to kill Shivani if she did not accept his proposal, following which she hanged herself on Tuesday.

The police have promised stringent action.

This comes a week after  a 36-year-old school principal killed herself after alleged harassment by a male colleague in Puppalguda in Ranga Reddy district on the outskirts of Hyderabad.

The victim Srilatha was being stalked for a long time by the accused R Sridhar, and was afraid to lodge a complaint as her job was at stake.
