Several students of the Sri Vasavi Junior College in Hyderabad's Vanasthalipuram area protested on Wednesday, alleging that the institution's principal had swindled them.

According to the students, college prinicpal Srinivas, took money from them for the examination fees but allegedly did not pay the same to the Board of Intermediate Education (BIE).

The students are now expected to miss exams which were set to begin on Wednesday, as they were not issued hall tickets, and will have to write their supplementary exam later.

Speaking to local media, the students claimed that they were repeatedly denied hall tickets over the past few days, with the college asking them to come later each time.

The students refused to budge from the spot until Tuesday night when the police arrived, and later filed a case at the Vanasthalipuram police station.

Speaking to The New Indian Express, Dr A Ashok, secretary, Board of Intermediate Education, said, "The students should have felt suspicious and approached us when they did not receive hall tickets for the two compulsory exams or at least when they did not give practical examinations. The students and parents blindly believed the principal when he told them that it is not a cause of worry."

Ashok also told TNIE, “Now it is too late. As the students will be marked absent for practical and the two compulsory exams, the system will automatically regard them as failed. They need to give instant supplementary exams now."

The students have demanded that the college management be arrested and have asked for a detailed probe into the incident.

They have also asked that a provision be made, for them to attempt their exams, despite the BIE stating that it will not happen.
