The Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad (RGIA) was put on high alert after a bomb threat email was sent to the airport’s customer care ID on Tuesday afternoon. The message read: “I want to blast bomb in airport tomorrow.” However, it was later to found to be a hoax.

On receiving the email, customer care authorities immediately informed the Airport Operation Control Centre, following which the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Telangana police and other security units were alerted.

A press note released by the Telangana police stated that a committee was formed between the CISF, state police and the GMR Hyderabad Industrial Airport Limited (GHIAL) management. After discussion, the mail was declared as “non-specific”.

The security units have assured that all safety measures have been taken to thwart any unwanted incidents and anti-sabotage checks have been carried out on the premises.

“We have conducted anti-sabotage checks throughout the airport and no suspicious material has been found. A police complaint on the threat has been lodged at the Shamshabad police station and cyber police are trying to trace the identity of the person who sent the email,” N Prakash Reddy, DCP Shamshabad, told The Times of India.

No arrests have been made in the case yet.

Two months ago, a similar incident had put the security officials at the airport in a tizzy after they received a bomb threat call on the day of Home Minister Amit Shah’s arrival in the state. False information was passed on to the CISF officials by a drunk man about bombs on two flights, following which the aircraft were thoroughly checked. The accused Vishwanathan, who was supposed to travel in a flight to Chennai, was in an inebriated condition and was later arrested by the Shamshabad police after the information was found to be a hoax.
