Hyd woman creates fake Facebook account of Telangana IT secretary, gets arrested

A woman IAS aspirant in her late twenties was arrested by the Telangana police on Monday for creating a fake Facebook profile of Telangana IT secretary Jayesh Ranjan and posting abusive content on social media The women might have been suffering from depression and showed signs of not being mentally fit, the police said.

When quizzed about the reason for zeroing in on Ranjan, the police said that she had earlier come across inspirational speeches by him, which led her to start the fake Facebook page.

Police also did not mention her name, keeping in mind her mental condition.

According to reports, T Narender, personal assistant to Ranjan, had filed the complaint on behalf of him.

"Narender had alleged that an unidentified person had created a fake Facebook ID in the name of Mr Ranjan and had started posting obscene content. This had become a cause of nuisance for those following the IT secretary’s FB page," an official told Deccan Chronicle.

The DC report also added that the police tracked the IP address and traced the suspect, to find the woman, preparing for the civil services exam in a hostel in Gandhinagar.
