Car runs over man sleeping on pavement in Hyderabad, case filed against driver

In a tragic incident, a cobbler was run over by a car on Sunday night in Hyderabad. The incident took place near DAE colony in Kushaiguda at around midnight.

The driver of the car has been identified as Ishaniya Reddy (20), a B Tech student and a resident of Tarnaka. According to reports, she was heading home from A S Rao Nagar with three of her friends when the incident occurred.

Ishaniya and her friends – all engineering students – told police that they were trying to avoid hitting a dog which appeared in the middle of the road and in that moment of panic Ishaniya lost control of the vehicle and ran over Ashok, who was sleeping on the pavement.

After running over Ashok, the car hit a compound wall and came to an abrupt halt, injuring the students inside the car.

There was a mild commotion after the accident as angry locals had an argument with the girls and accused them of driving in an inebriated condition.

Ashok was rushed to Gandhi Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Although locals alleged that the car was driven by a girl under the influence of alcohol, police have dismissed the allegations.

Speaking to TNM, Kushaiguda Inspector Venkata Ramana said, “The car driver underwent the breath analyser test. It is established that the driver was not under the influence of alcohol.”

Police have registered a case under 304 A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

One of the students travelling in the car is the daughter of the Malakpet Circle Inspector, and there is speculation that the police are trying to hush up the case.

A quick check of the license plate with the Hyderabad Traffic Police’s integrated e-challan system showed that the car has only one pending fine for violating the stop line near the Telugu Talli flyover on January 25 this year.
