After being questioned about boy’s murder, Army jawan shoots himself

The News Minute | November 3, 2014 | 11:40 am ISTAn army jawan allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his duty weapon in Hyderabad on Monday.The jawan, Appalaraju, was questioned recently about the murder of an 11 year old boy who was burnt alive on October 9 near the Medhipatnam Army garrison.The boy, Syed Mustafa, was a student at a madarasa and stayed adjacent to the Garrison area, which is a restricted area.The boy was found lying in the military area by local persons on October 8 in the afternoon and was rushed to the Osmania General Hospital. He was later shifted to the Apollo Hospital at Santoshnagar where he succumbed to burns.The police claimed that the boy, Syed Mustafa, in a dying declaration, had told a magistrate that some “Military men” had burnt him. This led to public outrage, and a special inquiry team was set up.Appalraju was grilled by special investigation team four days ago in Mustafa murder case at Mehdipatnam Garrison.The Humayunnagar police have registered a case of suspicious death following Mr. Appalraju's suicide and taken up investigation.
