The News Minute| September 20, 2014| 12.00 pm ISTUnion Minister Pon Radhakrishnan on Thursday said that the low turnout in the local by polls to different urban and local bodies in Tamil Nadu was due to public discontent.Union Minister of State for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Pon Radhakrishnan who was in Coimbatore on Friday for a Confederation of Indian Industry inauguration said that the reason for the 46.5 per cent turnout in the Coimbatore by-elections was because people had lost hopes in elections.“It would have been better if Tamil Nadu had not arranged the elections,” he said. After alleged attacks by AIADMK workers on BJP’s Coimbatore mayoral candidate according to Times of India, Radhakrishnan said that such acts were “against democracy” and hoped for more transparent counting operations.He also questioned reasons for omission of NOTA option in the bypoll elections saying that it would have directly reflected the mood of the people.
