The News Minute| September 4, 2014| 8.00 am ISTUnion Human Resource Develoment Minister Smriti Irani’s clarification has allowed schools to make attending PM Modi’s address voluntary, however schools in Tamil Nadu aren’t that enthusiastic.Over the lack of any state government instructions, no government nor corporation schools have begun preparations for the upcoming address on Teachers’ Day, said The Hindu (Chennai Edition, Dated 4th September) . Only Central Board of Secondary School (CBSE) schools are readying for the event, said the report. Modi’s speech most likely to be in Hindi is another reason for schools not being keen on the event. They believed that political parties would object over the “Hindi” forced on the state, said the report.The report also indicates that despite Irani’s mention to the contrary, all CBSE schools still view attending PM Modi’s Teachers’ Day speech as mandatory after a circular was passed to schools seeking information on the arrangements being made and the number of students attending the event.
