Thaali saga: Fringe group that allegedly threw bombs says Tamil channel attacked 'Hindu sentiments'

His group has claimed responsibility for the attack in which two tiffin box bombs were hurled at the office Puthiya Thalaimurai office at around 3:00 am on March 12.The channel had been recently receiving threats after it aired the promo of a talk show on a sensitive subject - the “Mangalsutra” or “Thaali”.A.PandiyanThe discussion on the talk show, which was scheduled for telecast on March 8, was focused on whether the Thaali has become a redundant symbol, especially in cases where the husbands have abandoned or tortured their wives.A press release by the Hindu Ilaignar Sena called the channel’s attempt, “to make the Thaali a mere ‘display object’, “unacceptable”, while “Hindu women consider the Thaali as sacred. It is considered as a woman’s wealth”.It reads, "In the name of freedom of expression, Puthiya Thalaimurai has been insulting and belittling age-old Hindu traditions and telecasting programs that are derogatory to the Hindu religion".“Would the media dare to do a debate on whether Muslim women can wear a purdah or not?,” the group says in the statement.The press release also warns other media groups and those who spread "anti-Hindu propaganda" to “…beware. Stop your activities to malign Hinduism”.The press statement also condemns the police for arresting Hindu outfit members who protested outside the channel's office last week. The tiffin box bombs hurled at Puthiya Thalaimurai The channel claims it has received around 3,600 threatening calls ever since it aired the promo last week.However, no one was injured in the attack on the office on Thursday.
