For Uber and Ola drivers, one Chennai driver’s act of kindness in a horde of rape, molestation and theft complaints comes as a breath of fresh air.

Journalist Jarshad Kakkrakandy had taken his car out on Tuesday morning and soon discovered he had a flat tyre. As he was on his way to a meeting, he parked to the side of the road and hailed an Uber.

When driver Kumar arrived 10 minutes later, he enquired from Kakkrakandy if the car parked there was his. Kakkrakandy pointed to the flat tyre and explained his hurry to leave for a meeting. When the obvious question of changing the tyre came up, he said there would be no point because it would take at least 30 minutes to fix the spare.

Instead of picking up Kakkrakandy and the trip fare he would’ve made, Kumar simply fitted the spare tyre and had his customer’s car running in less than 10 minutes.

“People like Dhinesh Kumar keep reminding me how the city got through its worst floods last December,” Kakkrakandy said in his Facebook post on Tuesday. What’s more, Dinesh refused to accept any money in return.

In just a day of being uploaded, the post garnered 1,500 shares and 8,000 likes.
