5 babies die in Dharmpuri within a few hours

The News Minute | Novemebr 16, 2014 | 11.50 am ISTFive new born babies died in the span of a few hours at a Government Hospital on Friday evening in Dharmapuri.The deaths, four of which were girls, was said to be the result of “neo-tatal complications including respiratory problems”,said Times of India.The babies all of whom were between three to five days old were admitted to the neo-natal intensive care unit two days back, said the report. Apart from the five babies, 25 other babies at the hospital experienced breathing difficulties, said the dean according to the report. Over concerns raised by parents that the intensive care unit was not equipped to handle serious issues, it was also said that the unit could only handle 30 babies at a time.Three of the five babies were severely underweight, reported The Hindu. The Infant Mortality Rate in Dharmapuri is 17 per 1000 births, said the report.
