Will home delivery of petrol and diesel, soon become a reality?

Written by : TNM Staff

Every time the price of petrol is hiked, it is not uncommon to see long lines at petrol bunks. And with more and more people owning vehicles, your waiting time at a petrol bunk on a day-to-day basis is only expected to increase.

But in a move that may come as a relief for people not wanting to wait in the long queues, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas is mulling the delivery of petrol and diesel directly to your homes.

In a series of tweets on Friday, the Ministry announced that it was considering a mechanism to make possible for home delivery of petroleum products to the consumers on pre-booking, as a part of reducing the long queues at petrol bunks.

This is also a step towards encouraging more digital transactions by the consumers.

The ministry is considering various available options for delivering petrol and diesel to people's doorstep.

Around 350 million people are said to visit petrol pumps every day and transactions worth Rs 25 million take place annually.

Recently, the Consortium of Indian Petroleum Dealers (CIPD) had proposed that petrol bunks remain shut on Sundays in the five south Indian states and parts of Maharashtra, starting May 14. The idea was proposed as a step to reduce fuel consumption.
