A new study by a Ph.D candidate in the statistics department of Columbia University says there are almost two million rats in New York city. Well, that's actually of relief to most people in the Big Apple.

Why?

Previously, it had been suggested by many that there was one-rat-per-person in New York city, that's almost EIGHT million rats.

Jonathan Auerbach, the person behind the study told Huffington post that, "While the rat population remains a serious problem in New York City, there appears to be no evidence supporting the 8 million number."

Auerbach studied the rat population by classifying rat sightings by parcels of land in the city.

So thats six million less rats than people thought, but two million is still two million.

As you think of rats, here are some adorable rat pictures!
