Taking the NEET UG on May 5? Here’s what you can do to be fully prepared

Students around the country are getting ready to take the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) UG on Sunday, May 5. With just days left for the exam, students might be confused or even overwhelmed as to what they should be focussing on with regard to their studies. To make things easier, TNM reached out to experts for their advice on how to effectively and efficiently use the next few days in order to ensure that you are best prepared to face the exam.

“Last year’s cut-off was around 360, which means that this year will certainly have a cut-off of around 400,” says Chennai-based education activist Jayaprakash Gandhi. “Keeping this in mind, students need to start assessing the exam and figuring out where they roughly stand and go over topics accordingly.” He further notes that subjects such as biology, chemistry, botany and zoology become focal points for revision. “Human and plant physiology is something students should look through. Organic chemistry is also important. If they revise these properly, that is an easy 70 marks at least for them.”

“What are the weightage subjects? Focus on key lessons in those subjects,” adds Suresh M, director of Spectra Academy, a coaching centre.

“Students should have all their materials, including any ID proof and hall tickets,” says Jayaprakash adding that in order to avoid any last minute hassles or hiccups, keeping a checklist makes it easier. Furthermore, he advises students to go over the test centre rules, including the dress code, to avoid any unwarranted confusion or stress on the day of the exam.

Suresh adds that students should also make it a point to iron out any transportation issues prior to the exam date. “They should know where the test centre is, maybe even try and visit it once so they are familiar with the place. They should definitely figure out how they will go to the exam centre prior to exam day itself,” he says.

The night before the exam

A good night’s sleep is extremely important and often overlooked. Students should be getting at least 6 to 7 hours of sleep the night before the exam. Try to avoid cramming things and instead get rest. In the morning, it is best to avoid coffee or other caffeine containing substances which may trigger or increase anxiety.
