Police shot a British man who was confronted trying to eat the body parts of a woman in his hotel room, at South Wales, on Thursday.

Matthew Williams, 34, was allegedly eating his victim’s eyeball when security staff burst in on the shocking attack. The victim has been identified as Cerys Yemm, 22, a shop worker and William’s girlfriend.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene and a murder investigation has been opened.

“While under arrest, the man became unresponsive. Officers and paramedics administered first aid but he has since been pronounced deceased,” Gwent Police said in a statement. Williams was recently released from prison after serving five years for a violent attack on a woman, the Daily Mail reported.

The probation service is launching an investigation into why Williams was not being monitored following his release, the Daily Mail reported
