TRS MLA Poaching case: SIT summons Thushar Vellapally, manhunt for doctor continues

The Telangana Special Investigation Team (SIT), on Wednesday, November 16, served a notice to Thushar Vellapally and summoned him to be present before the investigating team on November 21. Tushar, who is the son of a Kerala community leader Vellapally Natesan, is the chief of Bharath Dharma Jana Sena (BDJS), an ally of the BJP in Kerala.  The SIT which is carrying out its investigation under the leadership of Hyderabad Commissioner CV Anand deployed Nalgonda SP Rema Rajeswari and her team to Kerala as part of the investigation.

The SIT has been on the lookout for Dr Jaggu Jagannatham, who was found to be close to Ramachandra Bharti, one of the three accused in the TRS MLA poaching case. The SIT probing the sensational case conducted a search at the doctor's residence in Kerala but could not find him. The SIT has launched a hunt for the doctor, sources said. The SIT also reportedly carried out searches at Mata Amrutanandamayi’s ashram and the premises of Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences in Kochi as Dr Jaggu Jagannatham, known as Jaggu swami, was allotted a quarters at the institute as he was an employee of the hospital. Searches were also reportedly carried out in Kollam in Kerala.

The Cyberabad police had arrested Ramachandra Bharti and Simhayaji and a Hyderabad-based businessman Nanda Kumar on November 26, while they were allegedly trying to lure four MLAs of Telangana’s ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS). The complaint was filed by Pilot Rohit Reddy, one of the MLAs who was allegedly offered Rs 100 crore to change political loyalties.

A total of seven police officers are members of the SIT.
