The BJP in Kerala has contacted Indian pacer S Sreesanth to contest the upcoming assembly elections for the party in the state.

Sreesanth told the media that he had informed BJP leadership that he was ready to contest and the party had deliberated on the same.

The former cricketer is likely to be pitted against current excise minister K Babu in Thrippunithura, Kochi, reported CNN-IBN. Sources within the party had earlier told CNN-IBN that the cricketer was considering the matter and would decide following a discussion with his family.

Sreesanth’s mother had then told Mathrubhumi news that they have not yet decided on the issue.

The BJP has failed to win even a single seat in the state in any of the Lok Sobha or assembly elections.

Media reports suggest actor Kollam Tulasi, director Rajasenan are a few of the other celebrities that the BJP is considering to field in the May 2016 elections.

BCCI in July, 2015 had said that they would not lift the ban imposed on Sreesanth, in relation to the 2013 spot-fixing controversy.

Sreesanth was also arrested by police in Mumbai after evidence emerged that he was in touch with bookies.

In August 2015, the Hindu carried a report in which the bowler remained hopeful of the ban being lifted and expressed confidence of representing the country in the 2019 World Cup.
