Pinarayi government’s first budget: What will cost more and what less

The first budget of the Pinarayi Vijayan government was presented by Finance Minister TM Thomas Isaac in the assembly today. The budget that promised many social reforms will also change the common man’s account quite a bit.

What will become costlier?

Basmati rice to cost more

2% tax on garments

Fat tax on food chains and restaurants, 14% tax on burger and pizza

20% tax for disposable plastic

5% tax on wheat products in packets

5% tax for coconut oil

20% tax for disposable plastic

Green tax for four wheel vehicles more than 10 years old

Price of stamp paper raised by 3%

What will be cheaper?

Tax on hotel rooms reduced

Cinema tickets will be cheaper
