A debate and discussion against fascism was held on Thursday in Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit in Ernakulam despite the order from the university to cancel it.

The meet organized by Research Scholars Association (RSA) of the university on the topic `Indian Fascism: New Forms and Resistance', was inaugurated by prominent Malayalam poet Kureepuzha Sreekumar and the main speaker was contemporary Malayalam writer and critic Sunil P Ilayidam.

At the inauguration talk Kureepuzha said that university should not have issued  the order to cancel this program.

Earlier the university had cancelled the permission to conduct this meet allegedly under pressure from the ABVP.

“We had police protection and there were no problems in conducting the meet. Fascistic elements are to be questioned by people who are against it. That is freedom we enjoy in this democracy and the freedom have to protected,” One of the organisers and an Assistant professor of the college Biju Vincent told The News Minute.

There were allegations that the University denied permission because Prime Minister Narendra Modi was being criticized in the context.

However university has stated that permission was cancelled because some political clashes had occurred on campus in past week and they did not want it to flare up again by allowing a controversial program to be organized.
