The News Minute | July 9, 2014 | 12:23 PM IST Kerala’s Education Department has “rescued” 10 Polytechnic students who flouted rules and copied during their exams. Though the regular practice is to debar such students from writing exams for a fixed period of time, the department thought that in this case all they need to do is to evaluate the answer sheet after “ignoring” the copied portion and valuing the rest. The students are from the Government Polytechnic College in Muttom, Idukki.In the entire history of the department, this is the first time that the Education Ministry put out an official order asking officials to evaluate an answer paper, by ignoring the “copied” portion.The order not only says to ignore the copied portion and evaluate the rest, it also relieves the students of some blame by saying that they cannot be singled out and blamed as the invigilators also did not do their part right.Reports suggest that some officials are of the opinion that since many students copy during exams and get away with it, punishing these ten students would be “unfair”.The notice was issued on June 27 by the Deputy Director of Higher Education. The order was followed by the department in evaluating the answer papers of these ten students and their results were announced accordingly. But despite this, only six of these students passed in the exam.
