Telugu Desam Party eyeing Karnataka to propel into national politics

Telugu Desam Party chief N Chandrababu Naidu is reportedly eyeing Karnataka as a gateway to make the party’s entry into national politics.His remarks on the occasion of the party’s 30th year celebrations, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister suggested that he was looking to the Telugu-speaking communities in the states neighbouring Andhra Pradesh and Telangana as a vote bank that would help achieve his national ambitions.To begin with, Naidu is banking on the Karnataka Assembly polls in 2018 which could set the ball rolling for his ambitions, according to a report in Kannada daily Kannada Prabha.The party is primarily targeting the states of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Odisha to expand its reach, as these states have significant numbers of Telugu-speaking people.In Karnataka, the party will focus on the districts of Ballari, Kolar and Raichur bordering Andhra Pradesh as they have high populations of Telugu speakers.A three-member committee headed by Finance Minister Rama Krishnudu has been tasked with carrying out membership drives in all the southern states, the report said.
