Image for representation purpose onlyA sugarcane farmer was rushed to a hospital after he attempted suicide outside Suvarna Vidhana Soudha in Belagavi where the monsoon session of the Karnataka Assembly is in progress.Kannada news channel Tv9 reported that 27-year-old Siddaraiah was among hundreds of farmers who were protesting outside the venue on the first day of the monsoon session. Siddaraiah of Naladi village in Madikeri taluk, reportedly consumed poison and was rushed to KLE hospital for treatment.According to the channel, Siddaraiah took the extreme step as a sugar factory near Kempavada, Belagavi district owed him of Rs 3 lakh for sugarcane sold to them.Leader of Opposition Jagadish Shettar accused the state government of ignoring the grievances of sugarcane farmers, TV9 reported.
