The News Minute | August 25, 2014 | 9 am ISTThe by-polls in Karnataka are a tussle of power between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and former Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa.The former is fighting to retain his power in the state and the latter, to demonstrate he is still a force to contend with. Voting was held on August 21 and results will be announced by noon on Monday.Three Assembly constituencies in the state have gone to by-polls after the MLAs representing them were elected to the Lok Sabha in May. Shikaripura was vacated by Yeddyurappa and his son B Y Raghavendra is the BJP’s candidate pitted against Shantaveerappa Gowda of the Congress. Bellary Rural is vacant after B S Sriramulu was elected to the Lok Sabha. Now, the BJP has put up his aide Obalesh, against whom the Congress has fielded N Y Gopalkrishna. Chikkodi-Sadalga fell vacant after Prakash Hukkeri resigned. The Congress has fielded his son Ganesh Hukkeri against the BJP’s Mahantesh Kavatagimatha.
