Over 2 lakh acres of forest land encroached in Karnataka

The News Minute | December 11, 2014 | 08:41 am IST Over 2 lakh acres of forest land has been encroached upon in Karnataka, the government admitted on Wednesday. According to a The New Indian Express report, Forest Minister B Ramanath Rai said this in response to a query by MLC Ivan D’souza in the Legislative Council. Around  2,04,442 acres of forest land had been encroached in the state and the government plans to dispose cases of forest land registered prior to 1978 under Akrama Sakrama, he said. Rai also said that the government would speed up the process of reclaiming encroached prime forest land in and around Bengaluru.
