A man was arrested and sent to judicial custody in Parappana Agrahara Central Prison in Bengaluru for allegedly trying to help his rapist friend get off the hook.

Syed Akbar Zuber was arrested on November 7 for stealing the medical records-medico legal case register and police intimation book- from Bowring & Lady Curzon Hospital in Shivajinagar, in order to save his friend who was accused of raping his 15-year-old daughter.

Earlier in October, the father (the accused) was charged under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, for sexually assaulting his minor daughter and the duo had undergone medical tests to determine whether the rape took place.

According to Bangalore Mirror, the medical records were stolen under the impression that their absence would have turned the case in favour of the accused.

Zuber, who stole the records on October 8 from the chief medical officer’s cabin, had hid it at his relative’s house. The hospital authorities, who came to know about the missing records a few days later, filed a police complaint.

Examination of CCTV footage revealed a man entering the officer’s cabin and walking away with the two books.

Zuber was arrested from his residence in Frazer town and booked for theft.
