Four Muslim boys, two of whom are minors, were detained by the Belagavi police in Karnataka on Friday, after they were found by the Sambra airport security in-charge official in a private ground, outside the airport premises. 

While the four are being questioned by the police, nothing suspicious has been found so far, says Belagavi city commissioner, Krishna Bhat. 

Bhat told The News Minute that Taufiq (17), Bande Naawaz (19), Bablu Jain-ul (16) and Samir(20), who are students of Arabia Siraj Ul-oom Madrasa in Pantbalekundri village near the airport, had come to watch the flights land and take off. A personnel belonging to Karnataka State Industrial Security Force (KSISF), which guards the airport, was the one who spotted them.

"According to the statements made by the four of them, they started from the Madrasa at 9:30 am and reached the private land at 10 am. They were outside the airport premises when they were found. An officer in-charge of patrolling went there. He asked them why they were present there and got other details," Bhat said.

"However, despite them saying they were there to watch the flights land and take-off, the personnel took them for an enquiry - first to the airport and then to Marihal police station," he added.

Bhat said that the police haven't found anything unusual till now and that the four of them will be released soon. 

Asked whether they were detained because they were Muslims, Bhat said,"Generally no one is seen in that area. But the security staff spotted some men in the morning and wanted to be sure there was nothing fishy. It was just a general enquiry and there is nothing more to it."
