Deve Gowda’s grandson lashes out at JD(S) party men, accuses them of being sycophants

Grandson of JD(S) supremo HD Deve Gowda – Prajwal Revanna, has once again made controversial statements against his own party men.

Prajwal, who was upset over not being offered to contest from the Hunsur constituency in the 2018 assembly elections, claimed that he had become a victim of “sycophants in the party”.

At a party programme conducted in Bengaluru’s Nagarbhavi area on Wednesday, Prajwal Revanna said, “There are leaders who are indulging in 'bucket politics' (implying sycophants). They know that they cannot continue with their tricks if I grow in politics. That is why they have conspired to push me out of the Hunsur constituency, where I wanted to contest from," Prajwal said. 'Bucket' in Kannada implies sycophancy.

Stating that he has utmost respect for his grandfather HD Deve Gowda and party President HD Kumaraswamy, Prajwal said that he is planning to contest from the Rajarajeshwari Nagar constituency.

“I am happy to have leaders like Deve Gowda and Kumaraswamy to guide me. The party is what it is today because of their hard work. However, it was only recently that I realized that some leaders are toeing the bucket to get ahead. Seven years of my hard work was undone by one man. I have become the victim of 'bucket politics' in the party,” Prajwal added.

Prajwal is the youth face of JD(S) and was projected as a promising leader from the Gowda family. However, his outbursts have brought to fore the bickering amongst party men.

This was not the first time that Prajwal Revanna publicly criticised his own party men. A few months ago, Prajwal Revanna had claimed that his party men were resorting to 'suitcase politics' - that money determined everything in the party.

He had indirectly made comments on his uncle HD Kumaraswamy for the 'suitcase' culture.  His comments had drawn criticism from party functionaries, forcing party supremo Deve Gowda to step in and do damage-control. He had asked Prajwal Revanna to apologise for the damage he had caused to the party.

Since then, Prajwal had not been seen at any party programmes. However, he broke his silence with his controversial remark that 'bucket' culture exists in the party.

He stated that his grandfather Deve Gowda and uncle HD Kumaraswamy were the strong pillars of the party and without them, there was no future for him or the party. "I'm not fool to go against them," he said.
