Written by : TNM

The National Award-winning actor Dhanush has a slew of films in his kitty including VIP 2, a Hollywood film, and Gautham Menon’s Enai Nokki Paayum Thotta. Several months ago, there was an announcement that the star is also considering a sequel to the Balaji Mohan directorial Maari. Well, it is now almost confirmed that Maari 2 will start rolling soon.

Director Balaji Mohan tweeted: “With ur blessings & continuous love for #Maari starting work on #Maari2!” Well, this is enough for Dhanush’s fans to wait for the film to hit the silver screens. And, yes, the plans are to have the film released for Pongal next year. The movie will be bankrolled by Dhanush, we hear.

Maari, a gangster comedy written and directed by Balaji Mohan, had Dhanush and Kajal Agarwal playing the lead roles. The film was produced jointly by Listin Stephen, R. Sarathkumar, Raadhika Sarathkumar and Dhanush under their banners Wunderbar Films and Magic Frames. Anirudh Ravichander had composed tunes for Maari and Om Prakash had cranked the camera with GK Prasanna editing it.

Currently, Dhanush is busy with the promos of his upcoming release Velai Illa Pattadhari 2 as the film is scheduled for release on July 28 worldwide. Directed by Dhanush’s sister-in-law and director Soundarya Rajinikanth, the film has Kajol Devgn, Amala Paul, Ritu Varma, Samuthirakani and Saranya Ponvannan in the star cast. It may be mentioned that Kajol is making a comeback to the Tamil film industry after a very long gap with VIP 2. While Sean Rolden has composed tunes for the songs, the BGM has been done jointly by Sean Rolden and Anirudh Ravichander.

VIP 2 will be released in Telugu and Hindi under the titles VIP 2 and VIP 2: Lalkar respectively.
