CCD received a fine of Rs.55 lakh for playing a song from "Ek Tha Tiger'

The News Minute | December 24, 2014 | 11.55 am ISTCafé Coffe Day recently received a notice from Novex Communications for allegedly using a song from Yash Raj Films production Ek Tha Tiger without prior permission and licensing rights, according to a report in the Economic Times.Novex Communications which is a Mumbai-based broadcasting and public performance licensing company has asked the coffee shop chain Café Coffee Day to pay a compensation of Rs. 5 lakh and Rs. 50 lakh for liquidated damage for infringement of copyrights, said the report.According to the report, in a letter dated November 6, the licensing company has alleged that one of the outlets of the coffee shop in Vidya Vihar, Mumbai played a song from the movie ‘Ek That Tiger’ for commercial exploitation and without prior consent.While Novex Communication refused to divulge information about the notice, CCD has confirmed that the company’s legal department is evaluating the letter received in the report.Novex Communication represents Yash Raj Films and according to their new arrangement anyone playing recorded or live concert of YRF music needs to take a license, said the report.Tweet
