A Tirupati based NGO, Animal Care Land (ACL), has developed a mobile app to help municipal authorities access complete details of the stray dogs in the city that have been sterilized and vaccinated, and have been geo-tagged.

Writing for Deccan Chronicle, T Sudhakar reported:

Though it was initially customised for the corporation, the government officials noticed that the mobile application had far wider implications, resulting in the development of  'ULB Dog Sterilisation in AP'. Making a mark across the 13 districts of AP, the 'ULB Dog Sterilisation in AP' mobile application aimed at gathering a wide range of statistical information linked to the Animal Birth Control-Anti Rabies Vaccination (ABC-ARV) programme.

The report adds that all dogs that are caught and operated upon, are photographed and the photos are uploaded to the app for future reference.

Many areas in the state are presently facing a problem with stray dogs.

Andhra is no stranger to the dog menace as many areas, especially in Vizag district have failed to control the population of canines.

In August, stray dogs in Andhra's Vizag district bit 13 people in a single day.

The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) had earlier stated that it had taken up a mass sterilization drive.

However, given the success of the latest app by ACL in Tirupati, authorities across the state can track sterilized dogs and regulate their population with much less effort.
