In a shocking incident, yet another student of  Sri Chaitanya Intermediate Junior College allegedly killed herself at her hostel in Nidamanuru in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh.

16-year-old Alamati Bhargava Reddy was reported to be a native of Rayachoti in Kadapa district.

The student had recently returned from home and spoke to his parents on Thursday. The police said that the boy's father, Narayana Reddy, is a realtor.

The Patamata police were alerted when other students found Reddy’s body hanging from the ceiling fan, and informed the college staff.

The reason for the suicide is yet to be established, and a case under Section 174 of the CrPc (Suspicious Death) was registered, The Hindu Reported.

The college staff shifted the body to Government General Hospital (GGH) Vijayawada, where he was declared brought dead.

The agitated parents and relatives reached the premises of the college later in the day and protested in front of the college, alleging that the management drove their son to take the extreme step, local media reported.

Andhra Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) Chairperson G Hymavathi, along with others, also visited the college.

Speaking to The Hindu, she said, “The facilities in the hostel were very poor. Bhargava Reddy was in depression on Thursday, but the college management did not keep a vigil on him, which led to the incident. The conditions in the classrooms, dining halls, kitchen and the toilets were horrible.”

The commission chief asked the Board Of Intermediate, along with officials of the Police and Child Welfare departments, to submit a report to them.

Meanwhile, the Congress party demanded that corporate colleges be shut down in Vijayawada, with the party’s spokesperson, Kolanukonda Sivaji, pointing out that students in two particular corporate colleges were resorting to suicide.

He also criticised the government for not responding, despite the grave situation.

Several student leaders who were protesting inside the college were also taken into preventive custody.

Last week, a student in Narayana Junior college in Kadapa killed herself by hanging in her hostel.

Concerned with the rising number of student suicides, Andhra HRD Minister Ganta Srinivas Rao had asked Kadapa Collector to submit a report on the matter.
