300 year old 'panchaloha' idols unearthed in Anandapuram, Vishakhapatnam

The News Minute| July 6, 2014| 11:10 am IST Vishakhapatnam: Workers have unearthed 300 year old ‘Panchaloha’ idols from a tank in Anandapuram in Viashakhapatnam district. The workers were carrying out de-siltation work in the tank. Around 15 idols have been unearthed; the idols are of various gods and goddesses. Panchaloha is an alloy made of five different metals and hold religious significance.According to a report in The New Indian Express, the finding was referred to the village sarpanch who eventually informed the Archeological Department of Vishakhapatnam. The archaeologists, on a preliminary examination, said that the idols were 300 years old. They have decided to undertake further study.Owing to their religious significance, people from neighbouring areas came to offer prayers at the spot. However, this was not allowed. No information has been confirmed with regard to how the idols got there.
