You can't merrily drink and drive in Hyderabad during the day anymore, here's why

If you thought drunken driving tests happen only after the sun sets, think again. Drivers in Hyderabad have to be careful in the daytime too as the city traffic police are beginning to conduct checks even during the day.

According to a report in the Times of India, plainclothes police will keep a watch on the people coming out of pubs and bars and alert a team, through wireless set, waiting ahead.

The reason for this, is the increasing frequency of road accidents occurring in the city during the day.

"When we conducted a pilot check with a few teams at Punjagutta, Banjara Hills, Abids and Secunderabad for an hour-and-half from 1:30 pm on October 1, we caught 34 persons driving in an inebriated state,“ DCP Traffic, Hyderabad, L S Chauhan told the newspaper.

The results of this pilot check soon reached the higher ups, who gave the green signal to conduct checks during daytime as well.

On Saturday, seven teams conducted checks at Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills, Punjagutta, Begumpet, Secunderabad, Abids for three hours from 2 pm and caught up to 82 drunken drivers.
