Telangana Child Welfare Committee member sexually assaults teenager

Written by : PTI

A member of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) in Ranga Reddy district in Telangana was booked on Friday for allegedly sexually assaulting a 16-year-old orphan boy, police said.

Krishna, the accused member of the CWC, was given the responsibility of shifting the boy, who had been rescued and put up at Saidabad children's home, to Kukatpally in Hyderabad a few days ago, they said.

"However, instead of taking the boy to Kukatpally children's home here, he took him to some other place and sexually assaulted the teen," KPHB police station Inspector Ch Kushalkar said.

A case under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act has been registered against Krishna and a hunt has been launched to nab him, as he is absconding, the inspector said.

CWC is a quasi-judicial body appointed by the Women and Child Welfare Department under the Juvenile Justice Act.

Further investigation into the case is on.
