Watch panels from Chennai’s Hyatt hotel fly-off in Cyclone Vardah

As Cyclone Vardah made landfall in Chennai with strong winds gusting up to 140kmph, the city’s five-star hotel Hyatt Regency faced the brunt of the storm.  One video shows one panel from the hotel’s façade being blown-off in the winds while another video uploaded on to YouTube by Addictive shows eight to ten panels flying off in the cyclone.  

Hyatt Regency is located in Anna Salai, in the heart of Chennai.  

 Two people have been killed in Cyclone Vardah. In a press release issued by Tamil Nadu government at 1:30pm said 260 trees had been uprooted, and 37 electric poles had fallen, 24 huts had been damaged and 224 roads have been blocked owing to the cyclone. 8008 people have been evacuated so far. 

Cyclone Vardah is expected to maintain its intensity till 6pm. The state government has requested people to stay indoors.
