The News Minute | March 28, 2015 | 01:50 pm IST A shutdown called by various farmer's organisations in Tamil Nadu on Saturday to protest against Karnataka's decision to build a dam across the Cauvery river at Mekedatu is underway peacefully without any untoward incident.The protest is being supported by political parties.Buses plying to Karnataka have been stopped. Almost all the shops in Thanjavur and several other districts are closed.Shops in the Karaikal region of Puducherry are also closed. However, normal life in Chennai is unaffected. However, in region of Coimbatore , Tirupur and Nigir i, the bandy was total with shops downing their shutters in response to the call for a bandy across the state. In Tirupur , almost 90 per cent of textile units remained closed, reported PTI. The bandh itself was called to pressurise the Centre in preventing Karnataka from carrying on its plan to build a dam across the Cauvery and a resolution was even adopted by the TN assembly aiming for the same.  However, Karnataka's Irrigation Minister MB Patil had on Friday announced that the state was all set to fight out all legal objections that TN had towards the proposed project, reported The Hindu. With inputs from IANS
