If you thought the Election Commission was winning with its memes, a tweet last evening is only set to prove that the campaign to get people to vote is getting more innovative.
The tweet on the TN Elections CEO Twitter page tempted many to click on a 28-second long video of cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin which read 'Dhoni or Virat? Ashwin answers'
But Ashwin promptly shot them down within good reason. “Of all the problems we have in this country, this is the question you want to ask? And your clicking this link to know?”
He went on to advise viewers to check if they were on the electoral list and leave the “Dhoni or Virat” decision to others. “Think about the country first and go vote,” he signs off.
A little disappointing for ardent cricket fans, but he has a point. The tweet has almost reached 1000 favourites and 900 retweets since it was first put up on the Twitter page yesterday evening.

Commenting on the tweet, Chief Electoral Officer Rajesh Lakhoni told The Hindu, “Our Ashwin video has gone viral. We are trending. First time an election account is trending.”
