The News Minute| October 6, 2014| 12.20 pm ISTDMK chief M Karunanidhi has criticised protests by several groups in the state condemning the judgement by a Special court in Chennai that sentenced Jayalalithaa to four years in jail.In a move that has drawn widespread criticism, even as association of private schools declared holiday on Tuesday. Tamil Nadu based political party PMK, approached the Madras High Court against the move, latest report indicates that schools will remain open on Tuesday. In a statement, the DMK chief has criticised the groups protesting the judgement. The statement says, "In the name of solidarity film fraternity, private bus owners and other sectors are halting normal life in Tamil Nadu. Protests are happening across Tamil Nadu without even seeking police permission. I am shocked to know that private educational institutions will be closed for a person who is convicted in a corruption case. She should fight the case legally. It's condemnable to exert pressure on the judiciary through such protests. Sadly those who are ruling the state seem to be supporting this. Those in authority should ensure law and order is maintained in the state.,"
