Following the death of a transgender person outside Pondy Bazaar police station, the police has filed a case against 100 transgender people for protesting and damaging vehicles near the Kilpauk police station on Thursday, The Times of India reported.

The protesters were asking for action against Pondy Bazaar police station for the death of Tara, a 28-year-old, who was working with different NGOs as an outreach worker. 

She was found burnt by her friends outside the police station on Wednesday morning.

On Thursday, police tried to chase away the protesters, as they turned violent and the police had to use mild force against them, TOI reported. 

Moreover, at the Kilpauk Medical College hospital, where Tara’s body was kept, the protesters damaged vehicles. 

Later, the body was given to the transgender people after a post-mortem.

The Kilpauk police station has filed cases under various sections on many transgender people. 

The transgender people have also filed a complaint at the commissioner’s office against police personnel from the Pondy Bazaar police station.
