The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has put Ford Foundation, one of the largest NGO's in the world, on a watch list.  In a letter written by an Under Secretary in the Finance Ministry to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the MHA says that the RBI should instruct all banks and branches to insure that any credits into the account of Ford Foundation must be only after clearance from the ministry and department of Economic Affairs under Section 46 of the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act. Though the directive no reason why the organisation has been put on a watch list, some media reports suggest that Ford Foundation had not filed mandatory documents including balance sheets and annual reports.  The crack down on Ford Foundation comes after the government recently suspended the bank accounts of Greenpeace India.  Here is a copy of MHA's letter.  Read: Seven reasons listed out by MHA for freezing accounts of Greenpeace India
