Media magnate Rupert Murdoch recently claimed that Muslims should be held responsible, what he termed - “jihadi cancer.”

This statement was met with heavy criticism with people around the globe with people accusing him of propagating ignorant information and hurting the religious sentiments of the peaceful followers of Islam.

Despite all the debates that rage on screen, the image of “all terrorists are Muslims” persists in the media as well as the public imagination across the world. If we are to examine the veracity of this impression, we would need to look at data on terror attacks as maintained by the governments of various countries.

Of these, just how many terror attacks have been carried out by Muslims? It is less than two percent, according to data compiled by The Daily Beast, which explains exactly how many.

In an absurd finding, one study found that in 2013 more Americans were likely to be killed by toddlers than terrorists. Five people had been shot by toddlers who accidentally fired a gun.

The report also adds that, in Europe the same year, there were 152 terror attacks out of which only two were “religiously motivated,” while 84 were predicated upon ethno-nationalist or separatist belief.
