Beijing: Police in China have arrested 38 people in connection with the sale of contaminated chicken in the country.

Police in Yongjia county of east China's Zhejiang province said that 30,000 tonnes of chicken feet contaminated with hydrogen peroxide have been seized after they busted nine factories in the provinces of Jiangsu, Anhui, Henan and Guangdong, Xinhua reported on Monday.

The contaminated chicken was first found in Yongjia last September and the police followed the clues to break 35 "national sales networks". The factories used hydrogen peroxide solution as bleach and antiseptic.

Police are still hunting for 11 suspects.

Hydrogen peroxide has a wide use in manufacturing and medical sectors as a disinfectant and bleach but could be hazardous to health if mixed with food.
