A Kannada newspaper will be officially launched on Thursday by CPI(M) in the Kannada speaking area of northern Kerala.

According to Asianet News, the party will launch an evening newspaper ‘Tulunad Times’ in Kannada and it will be released by CPI (M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury at Kumble in Kasaragod.

The state’s northernmost district Kasaragod has a good majority of CPI (M) followers but in the Kannada speaking area of the district the red flag is less influential.

The report says that in last few party meetings members had been raising the need of a party Kannada newspaper to influence the BJP concentrated areas of the district.

The party claims that most of the newspapers have a strong leniency towards right wing politics and ‘Tulunad Times’ will follow factual reporting.

The report notes that the evening newspaper is a political tactic of the party to counter the increasing influence of extreme right wing organisations in the area. However the party had denied this claim.

The district has a good number of people who hold the sentiments towards Tulu speaking community and they hope for a ‘Tulunadu’ where they get a specified space and their heritage are protected.

The name of the party newspaper ‘Tulunadu’ can also influence the sentiments of this Tulu community.
