Named accused in RSS leader's murder, Jayarajan files fresh anticipatory bail plea

The Thalassery Sessions Court is likely to hear a fresh application from P Jayarajan on Saturday, seeking anticipatory bail.

The CPI (M) leader’s current application comes after the CBI listed him as an accused in the murder of an RSS functionary on Friday.

The court had on January 19 only dismissed his earlier anticipatory bail petition on the ground that he was not an accused (then) in the case related to the murder of RSS functionary E Manoj in September, 2014, allegedly by a group of CPI (M) workers.

In his present petition, Jayarajan, the Kannur district secretary of CPI-M, denied any link with Vikraman, the first accused in the case.

He also submitted that he was suffering from health problems and there was a possibility that CBI may harass after arresting him.

Jayarajan's bail plea also questioned the invoking of Section 18 of UAPA against him.

Jayarajan, who had been summoned by CBI in connection with the probe, has been arraigned as the 25th accused in the case and charged with offences including under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
