Five persons, reportedly CPI(M) and IUML activists, were arrested on Friday in connection with incidents of violence in Vadakara and nearby areas in Kozhikode during post poll rallies, police said.

They were arrested for indulging in violence as clashes broke out during rallies taken out by their respective parties on Thursday, police said.

Stray incidents of violence were reported in Kuttiyadi and Nadapuram areas in which a number of houses were attacked, police said, adding, the situation was now under control.

Only minor injuries were reported.

Meanwhile, the district administration has clamped prohibitory orders for a week in Koilandy, Vadakara, Chombala, Edathur and Valayam.

Post-poll violence on Thursday afternoon had claimed the life of a CPI(M) worker at Pinarayi in Kannur district.
