Hardly a day after his daughter Megha’s grand wedding on Sunday at Venpalavattom in Thiruvananthapauram, Kerala Income Tax officials raided the office of the liquor baron Dr. Biju Ramesh.

On Monday afternoon, three officers of the state Income Tax Department swooped down on the Rajadhani Buildings located at East Fort in Thiruvananthapuram to verify the details regarding the wedding expenditure.

According to The New Indian Express, the officials reportedly spent seven hours checking various documents in the office. Biju Ramesh was then asked to submit a detailed report of the same to the Department within a week’s time.

The controversial business magnate is the Chairman and Managing Director of the Rajadhani business empire headquartered in Kerala. He had hogged regional headlines when he turned whistle-blower in the bar bribery scam that rocked the previous UDF regime, which contributed to its electoral downfall in the recently held state Assembly elections in May.

His daughter Megha got married to Ajaykrishnan who is the son of Congress MLA from Konni in Pathanamthitta and former state Revenue Minister Adoor Prakash in the previous UDF government in a lavish wedding attended by around 20,000-odd guests.

The marriage ceremony is said to have come under the scrutiny of the authorities as it was conducted on a grand scale, at a time when the entire Indian economy is reeling under the demonetisation crisis.
