Cherian Philip, former Chairman of Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC) during the LDF tenure in Kerala government has landed himself in controversy. 

On his Facebook on Sunday, Philip made some unparliamentary statements on female Congress workers who were protesting against senior leaders in the Congress party by stripping off their white ‘kadar’ shirts regarding the highhandedness of the latter relating to the civic polls in Thissur district.

 He wrote, "The clothes stripping off protests by Youth Congress workers was a good one. Earlier women who did this protest privately have got seats in congress."

However, sensing trouble, the veteran politician was quick to step back and issued an apology of sorts and defended his earlier post.

In his second post, he wrote, "I have not said anything against women. I have not named anyone. I respect women. I talked about someone who invites shame to women community. Women themselves should act against these people.  I criticised men who makes women a victim.”

 Earlier he was a member of the Congress party and had contested elections as an independent LDF candidate in 2006 after some disagreement with his former party.
